Today we learned the following words -
動物dòng wù = animals
賽跑sài pǎo = race
第一dì yī = the 1st
第二dì èr = the 2nd
最後zuì hòu = the last
yǒu yī tiān shí èr zhī dòng wù sài pǎo
有一天 十二隻動物賽跑 = One day, twelve animals had a race.
shǔ pǎo dì yī
鼠跑第一 = the rat ran the first place
niú pǎo dì èr
牛跑第二 = the cow ran the 2nd place
hǔ pǎo dì sān
虎跑第三 = the tiger ran the 3rd place
tù pǎo dì sì
兔跑第四 = the rabbit ran the 4th place
zhū pǎo zuì hòu
豬跑最後 = the pig ran the last place
sheí pǎo dì wǔ
誰跑第五? = who ran the fifth place
After introducing the vocab, we used PQA 你喜歡什麼動物? (What animal do you like?) Many 1st period students were able to give me the answer with a complete sentence.After that we learn 誰最快? Who is the fastest? and we had some small races in the classroom. After reviewing the animal words, each students was given a piece of paper of a Chinese New Year animal and they traced, colored, and cut it off.
For Chinese Level II and III- students first copied down the story on the board and tried to read and figure out by themselves first. We introduced and translated aloud the story by volunteer students. Later we used TPRS circling questions with choral response and individual response. Next, students were given 5 minutes to create the story ending with 5 sentences and some students created quite well.
