二月十九日星期二 - February 19, Tuesday - A Day

FOR CHINESE LEVEL I ABSENT STUDENTS - #1 Copy down the words we learned on your notebook and show the teacher the notes when you come back, #2, Create 10 sentences with animals and the verbs we learned today and translate them into English and turn it in to the homework box when you come back.

FOR CHINESE LEVEL II & III ABSENT STUDENTS -- #1 Copy down the story we learned on your notebook and show the teacher the notes when you come back, #2, Read the story to your parents in 40 seconds a time and five times in total. Have your parents sign on the paper and turn it in by next Monday.

We first reviewed the following words and the animals.
 chī = eat
 tiào = jump
 pǎo = run
睡覺shuì jiào = sleep
游泳yóu yǒng = swim/swimming
 pá = climb, crawl
lā = pull
 fēi = fly
推 tuī  = push
hui = (be) able to, know how

 After that we introduced the new words as the followings:
爬樹pá shù = climb trees
下大雨xià dà yǔ = rain hard/ rain heavily
pàng = fat
shòu = skinny 

#1, we reviewed the animals words as usual and then we introduced the new words with TPR.
#2, we did the following activities
Activities: 
For 1st period,
a) each student was given a piece of lined-paper and assigned a number according to their row. For example, 1st row- Student A-#1, Student B-#2, Student C-#3...etc, 2nd row, - Student G-#1, Student H-#2, Student I-#3..... Each student write the assigned number on their paper.

b) Students were asked to write a sentence with animals and the verbs first and then pass it to the next person. The next person had to translate the sentence into English first on the paper and then wrote his/her own sentence and then pass it down again to the next person. Repeat the steps until 5 minutes is up.

c) Students were pairs up and then in the pair Student A read Student B a sentence written on the paper and Student B had to translate it into English. And then Student B read Student A a sentence and Student A had to translate it into English. Continue until all the sentence on the paper were read.

d) We also read the sentences aloud and had volunteer students to translate them into English.
e) We did the pair challenge; a pair challenge another pair of students; read their own Chinese sentence and have the other pair to translate into English.

#3, Students were also asked to write their own 10 sentences and read to their partner and have their partner translate into English and vice versa.

#4, We worked on TPRStorying with opening answers.

zhè zhī dòng wù jǐ suì

zhè zhī dòng wù xǐ huān zuò shí me 
這隻動物喜歡做什麼


FOR CHINESE LEVEL II & III
#1, Students first copied down the short story on the board.

有一隻動物
他是一條龍
龍又長又胖
他經常笑瞇瞇


#2, we put the pinyin on together as a whole class

yǒu yī zhī dòng wù 
有一隻動物
tā shì yī tiáo lóng 
他是一條龍
lóng yòu cháng yòu pàng 
龍又  長 又 胖
tā jīng cháng xiào mī mī 
他經常笑瞇瞇

#3, We used TPR circling questions and quickly went through this story.
#4, We read a story about Bob Baker and used volunteers' translation as well as TPRS circling questions to go through  this story. Please click Bob Baker to read the story.


#5, Students were asked to work as pair to read and translate the story about Dragon's Black Pants. Please click Dragon's Black Pants to read the story.


#6, We discussed the story.
#7, Students were timed to read the story up to 1 minute and then in 40 seconds.
#8, Students were assigned to read the story to their parent(s) in 40 seconds at home and 5 times in total. Turn it in with parent's signature by next Monday.
