US-China Strong: Ambassador Nominations

Dear Parents and Students,
The US-China Strong organizations is once again recruiting students who want to act as ambassadors.  Many of you had students who participated last year.

Just like last year they are recruiting students who can encourage others to learn Mandarin and learn about China. Students are expected to share their story on social media and complete projects such as start a Chinese Language Club or host a Chinese Culture Night.  Students can design their own projects to get the word out about learning Mandarin.

There are benefits for students such as participating in professional development webinars, receiving invitations to high-profile US-China relations events, putting on their resume that they were a US-China Strong Student Ambassador, and receiving a letter of recommendation from the foundation CEO.

This should be for mature students who are self-motivated.

I need to submit a list of interested students to the organization by September 16th, so please let me know by the 15th if you have any interested students.

I've attached an explanatory guide to this email that you can share with students and parents.

Please let me know if you have any questions, and I hope to hear from you by the 15th of September.

Thanks,

How do you get around the city in China?

I've been posting some video clips because we are talking about transportation. Last time we talked about how to get to "Disney" at 1st period; some of the students talked about they were going to take train, buses, drive, airplane, etc. One group of students shared that they were going to ride bicycles while one said she was going to ride a turtle. Here are some suggestions for people to get around cities in China.

This German guy's Chinese is amazing!!

Couldn't believe this German guy speaks Chinese so fluently and amazingly. When you are able to use the language to comment and express your thought in such a flow, your language proficiency is advance.

Video Clip for Transportation vocab

You may watch the video clip several times to be familiar with the transportation words.
One thing to say.. 坐火车 is a casual expression while you may use 搭乘火车 which is a more official and higher level expression.

Students were quite good today, quiet until we played Kahoot game. We had a little bit short of time; we had way too many problems about logging to the quizlet.com.
Last year students set up a quizlet account and unfortunately some students either forgot their username or password. I would suggest students to key in their username and password on their note app on their smart phone.

Welcome Back to School

Welcome Back!
This year is my first year teaching DLI 3 Honor students. I've met my students once or two. I felt honored to be their teacher; they are really awesome and great.

Today 1st period we worked on the dictionary form. Amazingly students created their own sentences and their own definition in Chinese characters. It did take a long while before I expected but I was so glad that they took the challenges. Of course there were several students who needed some help, which helped me be aware of their learning pace and of the adjustment that I needed to have to help them grown and learn.

For Chinese Level I students, we worked on the dictionary form as well but we played some games; such as Simon says, whiteboard and the stand-up-and-shout-aloud. We reviewed the greetings and learn 3 words on 停、走、跑。students were paying attention on the tones. We had fun time.

For 4th period students they seemed more active and outgoing than 1st period but generally most of them worked hard and did their best. We worked on the dictionary form; to clarify how to write the dictionary form we started over to teach and show. I heard a couple of students chatted in English. Too bad, huh?! We will work on that later. :) They are awesome!
