十一月二十九日星期四 November 29, Thursday - A Day

Chinese Level II and III we learned the following words-
早上 = in the morning, morning
中午 = at noon, at noon
下午 = in the afternoon, afternoon
晚上 = at night, night
先...再... = First... and then....
點心 = Snack
一...就.... = As soon as...., .....

We created sentences with 一...就.... and students shared their sentences.
After they shared their sentences we worked on the first page of a story and questioning.
Students worked pairs and read the 1st sentence and then use circling questions to ask one another.
 For example : 有一個男孩 他的名字叫Alex 
有一個男孩嗎?
有一個男孩還是女孩?
有一個女孩嗎?
有一個什麼?
=====
男孩的名字叫Alex嗎?
男孩還是女孩的名字叫Alex?
女孩的名字叫Alex嗎?
男孩的名字叫什麼?



For Chinese Level I students, today we only learned 2 new words 生氣 and 跑了. After the introduction, we used TPR/ASL reviewed the old words and we made flash cards with sentences.

生氣shēng qì = mad, angry
跑了pǎo le = run away

After that we played Binggo game with these flashcards (1st period). Last, students came up to the classroom to introduce their family in Chinese. We were planning to read the story and worked on the questioning but we didn't have time so we would do it next time.

十一月二十八日星期三 November 28, Wednesday - B Day

Today we learned 2 new words 生氣 and 跑了. After the introduction, we used TPR/ASL reviewed the old words and we made flash cards with sentences.

生氣shēng qì = mad, angry
跑了pǎo le = run away

After that we played Binggo game with these flashcards (5th). For 6th period students we read a story sentence by sentence; students voluntarily raised their hands and translated into English sentence by sentence.   Next they worked as pairs and asked one another the first 10 questions and answered it. Both period did the   family introduction in Chinese.

十一月二十七日星期二 November 27, Tuesday - A Day

For Chinese Level II and III, we only introduced 3 words today as the followings:
懶惰 = lazy
工作 = work
繼續 = continue

Students used the rest of the time to introduce their family members with pictures in the target language.
Today we have James, Brandon D. Tyler, Liam, Becca, Payton, Brandon B., Brayden A., Austin, Keegan, and Joshua W. did the presentation. They all did a great job. Interesting is Brayden and Austin are brothers but they have different opinions about the ages of their family members.
Today we learned some words such as 
看 kàn = look, watch

高興gāo xìng = happy, glad

First, we used TPR/ASL to introduce the new words. After that we used whiteboard activities to practices these words. Next, we acted out a story with these words. Last, the students who haven't introduce their family in Chinese came up to the front and did the presentation.

Today we learned some words such as

We reveiwed the old words with DaFengChui Game; and then students who haven't done their famiy introduction in Chinese did their presentation. After that we watched a video named IP Man 2 for 30 minutes.

十一月十九日星期一 November 19, Monday- B Day

Today we just learned a couple of new words, changing seatings, working on the app - BetterChinese Lesson 6 - 你家有幾個人 students only worked on Lesson's parts - Goals, animation - watching the animation at least 3 times, illustration - reading along the listening at least 3 times, and lesson text - read along the listening at least 3 times and finally that you get to the point that you may read the text without pinyin and immediately know what it means in English.

十一月十六日星期五 November 16, Friday - A Day

Today we Chinese Level I-III learned the similar stuff. We learned the new words similar activities. First we learned the following words.
zhè shì ... 
這是... = thiis is
nà shì ... 
那是... = that is
tā ....suì 
他....歲 = he is ...years old
 tā de míng zì jiào ....
他的名字叫....= his name is .....

And then we review the words we taught before. Next, we had students come up to the classroom to introduce their family in Chinese with their family photos. Every student needed to take notes to what presenters said. When a student was done her/his presentation, the teacher asked questions about the family and students either chorus response or raise their hands to answer questions. In other words, along with introduction, the teacher asked questions for clarification and students' comprehension.

Around 15-20 minutes before the class dismissed we played "DAFENGCHUI" which is like musical chair but we use it with family members.
Ghost: DaFengChui (Big wind blow)
Everyone: ChuiShenMe? (Blow what?)
Ghost: ChuiYou .... (Blow those who have....)
If the Ghost says ChuiYou BaBa (Blow those who have dad), then anyone who has dad needs to switch their spots.

 Today we introduced the words 外 公、 外婆、伯父、叔叔、 姑姑、舅舅、阿姨、也 and before we introduced the new words we reviewed the words as usual. After that we either use PQA to review the words and/or whiteboards to practice the words.
 Rest of time students who brought their family photo introduced their family using the structures as the followings:
 zhè shì wǒ de
 這 是 我 的.... this is my ....
tā de míng zì jiào
 他的 名 字叫.... his name is ....
tā ....suì 
 他....歲 he is.... years old. 
We briefly introduced why grandpa and grandma on mom's side are called 外wài公gōng and 外wài婆pó and the seven reasons that the married woman could be divorced by her husband in ancient China.

 After that we played the DaFengChui game to practice the family members. (6th period) we also did our family tree. Of course, we had students come up to the front to introduce their family in Chinese. This time the teacher involved in and asking questions and comprehensive check after each student's introduction.

Today we introduced the words 外  公、 外婆、伯父、叔叔、 姑姑、舅舅、阿姨、也 and before we introduced the new words we reviewed the words as usual. After that we either use PQA to review the words and/or whiteboards to practice the words. we used TPR/ASL to teach these words. The teacher introduced her family with the powerpoint and asked comprehension check questions -

We used PQA to teach these words. After that we read a story through powerpoint. We also used TPRS circling questions and we didn't finish the story though. Will continue the story.

十一月九日星期五 November 9, Friday - B Day

I was not in school today either. Here's the sub plan. Period 5 & 6 - they make a paper dragon. They need to color the paper dragon head and tail. Grab a piece of white paper, color it, and fold it into a fan and stick it to the dragon head and tail. If they have time left, they are aksed to use the Chinese-English dictionary to look up 10 words they like to learn and copy them down on their notebook. Foreign Language - they watched a video clip about greeting in French, copy down the words on their notebook. After that, they make 10 questions and answers on flashcards about France, and work as pairs to question one another. After that, they watched a video about France.

十一月八日星期四 November 8, Thursday - A Day

I was absent for a family medical emergency. The lesson plan was as the followings: Period 1 & 2 - they make a paper dragon. They need to color the paper dragon head and tail. Grab a piece of white paper, color it, and fold it into a fan and stick it to the dragon head and tail. Period 3 - they copy down the story on page 14 in Chinese characters, draw pictuers to the story, and ask questions to one another.

For Chinese Level I we started to learn family members llike 爺爺、奶奶、爸爸、媽媽、兄弟、姊妹、姊姊、妹妹、弟弟、哥哥、幾個。
We first used ASL/TPR to introduce the family members, and used PQA (Personal Question and Answer) to know how many brothers and sisters the students have. Next, we used smaill whiteboards to practice the words and the sentences. And then we worked on the dictionary page. Last we distributed a new hall pass to each student.
For 6th period, they got better concepts so they did more activities than other periods. For example, they practiced 我有.....個兄弟姊妹。我有...個哥哥/姊姊/妹妹/弟弟。and they also practice how old each of their family members.

十一月六日星期二 November 6, Tuesday - A Day

For Chinese Level I we started to learn family members llike 爺爺、奶奶、爸爸、媽媽、兄弟、姊妹、姊姊、妹妹、弟弟、哥哥、幾個。

For Chinese Level II and III we started to learn some daily activiities like 醒來、起床、響、洗、洗澡、洗臉、刷牙、牙刷、梳頭(髮)、從...出來、用、肥皂、弄乾、做、刮、鬍子。
We first used ASL/TPR to introduce the family members, and used PQA (Personal Question and Answer) to know how many brothers and sisters the students have. Next, insteading using smaill whiteboards to practice the words we used two pieces of paper and folded into 8 equal squares each. Students listened to what the teacher said and wrote down the pinyin, Chinese characters, English meaning, and pictures. And then we worked on the dictionary page. Last we distributed a new hall pass to each student.
