今天老師缺席,我們由我們的代課老師Ms. Bennett 幫我們的忙
Today the teacher was absent, and we had our sub, Ms. Bennett helped us out.

九月二十六日星期三 September 26, Wednesday - A Day

今天我們中文一首先教了一些打招呼的用語
Today we Chinese Level I learned some greetings words as the following:
nǐ hǎo
你 好 = Hello
nǐ hǎo mɑ
你 好 嗎 ?= How are you doing?
hěn hǎo

很 好 = Very good
huán kě yǐ

還  可 以 = It's okay
mǎ mǎ hǔ hǔ

馬 馬虎 虎 = So-so
bù hǎo
不 好  = not good


活動Activities
#1, Copy down the words on the board,
#2, Introduce the words with TPR,
#3, Group and pair conversation practice
#4, Act-out the story
#5, Read aloud the story through the powerpoint plus with TPRS questions
#6, Copy down the story
#7, Time-reading (Students read as pairs; Partner One read aloud to Partner B for 1.5 min and then Partner B read aloud to Partner A for 1.5 min. And then they read to one another for 1min, for 30 seconds, for 15 seconds and they were challenged to read the story in 5 seconds. Only two students reach the goal but more than 80%  of the students can be done reading within 7 seconds)

今天中文二和中文三的活動如下
Today What Chinese Level II and III students did is as the followings:
#1, Read the sentences with the powerpoint,
#2, TPRS cycling questions
#3, Time reading
      Students read as pairs; Partner One read aloud to Partner B for 1 min and then Partner B read aloud to Partner A for 1min. And then they read to one another for 30 seconds and they were challenged to read the story in 15 seconds.
#4, Time-writing.
     After students were done time reading, we did time-writing. Students were given 20 minutes to write a story with the following words -
shǒu xiān
首  先 = First, At first, the first one
rán hòu

然 後 = (and) then
jiē xià lái

接下來 = Next, next one
zuì hòu

最 後 = At last, Finally, the last one
zhōng yū

終 於 = Finally, At last
#5, Set up Ipads and try some Chinese apps!

The critieria for the time-writing are
#1. at least 16 sentences
#2, around 200 words
#3, write in pinyin but Chinese characters are extra points
#4, includes the words mentioned above

今天我們中文一首先教了一些打招呼的用語
Today we Chinese Level I learned some greetings words as the following:
nǐ hǎo
你 好 = Hello
nǐ hǎo mɑ
你 好 嗎 ?= How are you doing?

很 好 = Very good
huán kě yǐ

活動Activities

#5, Draw what you hear.
     On a piece of paper, the teacher says a sentence, students listen to the sentence and write down the sentence in pinyin, English meaning, and draw a picture to it.


For Foreign Language Survey,
We did the similiar activities but instead of drawing what you hear, we used the flashcards made last time and played Bingo games.

家庭作業中文一 Homework for Chinese Level I on Sept 21

Homework was given on September 21 Friday for 1st and 2nd period Chinese Level I students and the due day is September 26. Homework will be given on September 25 for 5th and 6th period Chinese Level I students and the due day is September 28. Assignment: Read to your parents five times in total; once a day and have your parents comment your reading fluency and sign the name on the paper.

今天我們中文一除了學一首歌-我的朋友在哪裡
Today we Chinese Level I learned a song named - Where is my friend?
我們還學了打招呼的用語和一個小故事
We also learned the greetings and a small story.
你好嗎?nǐ hǎo mɑ ?= How are you?
很好 hěn hǎo = Very good
馬馬虎虎mǎ mǎ hǔ hǔ  = So-so
還可以hái kě yǐ  = I'm okay.
不好 bù hǎo = not good
The story we learned is as the following:

一個男孩快快跑到門那裡 yī gè nán hái kuài kuài pǎo dào mén nà lǐ
他沒有停 tā méi yǒu tíng
他的頭撞到門 tā de tóu zhuàng dào mén
他的頭痛 tā de tóu tòng
他哭了! tā kū le !

活動:
1. Copy down the song's lyric 我的朋友在哪裡
2. Learn the song and compete who sing it loudest.
3. Introduce the greetings and the students work as pair to practice these greetings
4. Act out the story above for at least 10 times with different students.
5. Clarify the words in the act-out story.
6. Listening comprehension activity - the teacher said sentences and the students draw what they hear.

今天我們中文二和三只做了複習的動作
Chinese Level II and III students already did the review.
首先我們小考, 看學生能認得多少的單字
First we did the quiz to see how much students are able to recognize the English meanings to the words we learned.
因為很多學生都還不怎麼記得所教過的單字
Because lots of students still have difficulties recognizing the learned words, (it didn't reach the goal that 80% of students are able to recognize 80% of words taught),
所以我們沒有上新的進度
So we didn't learn new words or read a story.
我們停下來複習
We paused the lesson plan but review the words.
首先學生把一張紙折成八等份
First students folded a piece of paper into 8 cells,
在每個格子上寫上中文數字
They wrote Chinese number in each box.
然後聽老師說句子 學生把所聽到的句子寫在紙上
And then they listen to what the teacher said and write what they heard,
在每個格子上得寫上拼音中文英文和畫上圖片
They were writing down pinyin, Chinese character, English meaning and draw pictures to the words.
我們練習了七個句子
We practiced only 7 sentences (due to the consuming time in writing Chinese characters).
然後我們做單字卡
And then we made 8 flashcards
學生一邊做單字卡 一邊看哆啦A夢的影片 - 無底垃圾洞
While students were making the flashcards, they watched a video clip named ultimate garbage hole.

九月二十日星期四 September 20, Thursday - Chinese II & III

今天中文二和三我們只稍寫了黑板上的單字
Chinese Level II and III today only copied down the words on the board,
可是我們沒有時間介紹這些字
but we didn't have time to introduce these words.
我們先複習之前教過的單字
We quickly reviewed the words taught before.
然後我們讀家庭作業的文章
And then we read aloud the article in our homework this week
學生兩個人一組將這篇文章翻譯成英文
Students worked as pair and translated it into English.
接下來老師唸一句學生舉手將所知道的英文意思說出來
Next the teacher read aloud one sentence by one sentence, and students voluntarily raised their hands and translate it into English.
最後我們做月曆介紹大概有六位同學上台介紹他們自己的姓名/性別/年齡/年級/國籍/月曆/家庭成員/喜歡/不喜歡
Last, we did calendar introduction. There were about 6 students came up and introduce their name/gender/age/grade/nationality/calendar/family members/likes and dislikes.

走到 = walk to
那裡 = (over) there
跑到 = run to
門= door
窗戶 = window

Structures句型:
走到.(門)那裡 = walk to (door)
跑到(窗戶)那裡 = walk to (window)


Activities 活動:

#2, Introduce the words with TPR
#3, Reveiw the older words
#4, Act out the words/sentences by listening the commands
#5, Whiteboard activity
#6, Calendar Presentation - students came up to in the front of the classroom and introduce their name and gender (6th period) in Chinese like 我的名字叫.(Austin)...我是..(男孩).


Foreign Language Survey Class
Today we quickly introduce the new words as the followings
走到....那裡 = walk to ...
跑到....那裡 = walk to ....
門= door
窗戶 = window

Activities:
#1, Copy down the words on the board,
#2, Introduce the words
#3, Review the older words
#4, Flashcard making (making 22 flashcards - one side with pinyin and the picture to the word, the other side with English meaning)
#5, Play Bingo game (students picked 16 out of 22 flashcards and lay them on the table with 4 x 4 and have the flashcards English face up. The teacher said Chinese; students matched it to the English meaning and flipped the card. Once they have a row, they said, "Bing-guo" in Chinese. The first one who called "Bing-guo" received a Chinese treat.

他向我們介紹他學習中文的過程
He introduced how he learned Chinese with the students.
學生也向他提出問題
Students also asked him some questions and mentioned the challenges for them to learn Chinese.
今天我們學習了幾個新單字
Today we learned the following new words and structures.
早 = good morning (commonly use in Taiwan)
早上好= good morning (Commonly use in China)
姓 = last name, surname
貴姓 = (honorable/respectful form) What's your name?
Structures:
你姓什麼? = What's your name?
我姓...? = My name is....
Activities for Chinese Level I:

今天我們中文二和三先看一段卡通影片
Today we Chinese Level II and III students watch a cartoon video for about 10-15 min.
然後學生在看影片的同時寫下在影片中出現的學過單字
And then students wrote down the words they learned which was shown on the video.
接下來介紹新單字
Next we introduced the new words.
今天我們學的新單字有幾個
卡通 = Cartoon
努力 = work hard
決定 = decide/determine
在...之前= Before....
我們也複習之前學過的單字
打棒球= play baseball

今天我們中文一學了五個單字
Today we learned 5 worsd for Chinese Level I -
早 = good morning (common used in Taiwan)
早上好 = good morning (common used in China)
姓 = last name, surname
貴姓 = (your honorable) last name, surname (respectful form)
說 = say
The activity we did in class as the followings:
#1, copy down the words on the board,
#2, introduce new words
#3, pair work- pairs asking "你姓什麼?" "我姓...." and then practiced "您貴姓?", "我姓..."
#4, we acted out the story twice with TPRS cycling questions.
#5, students copied down the questions on their notes and answered the questions to the story.
#6, we are going to have a QUIZ on the vocabulary we've learned so far.

#4, Students stood up and walked around the classroom along with a Chinese song; while the song stopped, they stopped and found a person who was closest to them. They gave a high five and said "你好!" first and then they introduced their name to the perosn they met and asked in Chinese what's your name? "你的名字叫什麼?"
#5, We worked on the radical sheet for 1st 3 radicals: 水, 火, and 人

Today Chinese Level II and III students learned: play (instruments), play (sports), romantic, guitar

彈 = play (instrument) 打= play (sports) 浪漫 = romantic 吉他 = guitar
