八月三十日星期五 August 30, Friday- A Day

For Chinese Level I students,
we first introduced the new words as the following. We used TPR to introduced the words which means we created a gesture to each word so that students can connect the word to its English meaning. We did a quickly 'close-eye' evaluation which means that students closed their eyes and did the gesture to the word said by the teacher. Next, we practiced these words with small whiteboards. After that, we played "老師說" (Simon says). Last, we played charades.

Vocabulary List

zhàn lái = stand up
zuò xià  = sit down
dūn xià = squat (down)

zǒu = walk

kuài kuài = quickly, fast
t í ng = stop

For Chinese Level II & III students
students copied down the words on the slideshow, and then we used PQA to work on the words on the slideshow. Later we watched some pictures that related to Chinese traditional costume and talked about them. Students are informed that they are going to do A FASHION PROJECT soon;
1. choose a dynasty from Chinese history.
2. search the fashion clothing of the chosen dynasty.
3. explicit the meaning of the fashion clothing of the chosen dynasty.
4. compare the fashions between western's and China's.
We also watch a powerpoint about clothing.
Next we used whiteboard activities to practice these words.
We played "Ribbon Game" to have all the students practice conversation such as
"妳穿幾號鞋子?"
"妳穿幾號衣服?"

哪裡!哪裡!

We have learned 哪nǎ 裡lǐ? (= where?) as an Interrogative word/question. However, 哪裡!(not at all)  can also be a statement for the response to a compliment which means "Not all all" or "It's nothing special."
The following story shows the different concepts between 哪nǎ 裡lǐ? (= where?) and 哪裡!(not at all) 。
