April 30, Monday - 四月三十日星期一 - A Day

1st and 2nd period students reviewed the words and learned the following words. It's really nice when I said 社shè區qū and most of students loudly responded "Community" and 市shì區qū = downtown. 

huó dòng = activity

We used whiteboards, games, and PQA to be familiar with the words. We also completed our 1st page of dictionary form.

3rd period Chinese Level I students we copied down the following words but we only actually learned the first 12 words.
澳ào dà lì yà  = Australia
澳ào dà lì yà rén = Australian
zhōng guó rén = Chinese (people)
zhōng guó  = China
měi guó  = America
měi guó rén = American
xiàn zài = now
zhù zài = live in
chūn tiān = spring
xià tiān = summer
qiū tiān = fall
dōng tiān = winter
tiān tiān = every day
rén = people
hěn lěng = very cold
hěn rè = very hot
mào zǐ = hat
mǎi = buy
mài = sell
zhōng wén zěn me shuō ? how to say ... in Chinese?
zhǎo lái zhǎo qù = look for everywhere
zhǎo = look for
We used game and whiteboards, PQA to practice these words.
For 1-3 periods we all distributed the homework sheets and I presented how to complete the assignments online. For 3rd period students were asked to correct their dictionary form and turn in.

April 27, Friday 四月二十七日星期五 - B Day

Today we introduced the new words, used PQA and whiteboards to practice words and sentences with these words. After that, those who hadn't done their calenar presentation came up to the class and do their calendar introduction.

shēn tǐ = body
shēn shàng = on the body
dōu shì = both, all, all over
shuǐ = water
shuì jiào = sleep
dǎ hū lū = snore
bǎ ...dào zài ...= pour.. on
shēn shàng dōu shì shuǐ= water all over the body.

Calendar Presentation on April 26









April 26, Thursday 四月二十六日星期四 - A Day

Chinese Level II and III learned the following words -
shì qū  = downtown
gōng gòng qì chē = bus
fù jìn = nearby
yín háng = bank
yóu jú = post office
tīng shuō = people said...
lí ...yuǎn yī diǎn = leave...alone (away)
lí ...yǒu yī diǎn yuǎn = a little bit far from....
First we did the calendar introduction. I filmed the students of the 1st period; Tucker, Simran,
Thomas, and Cody. After that, we reviewed the words taught last time .
shè qū = community, , neighborhood
tài nào le = too annoying, too loud, too bustling
tài chǎo le = too noisy, too loud
安ān jìng = quiet, silent
安ān quán = safe, secure
fāng 便biàn = convenient, available
bú cuò = not bad, nice, good
For 1st and periods students, after reviewing the words taught last time, we introduced the new words and then practiced them with whiteboards. Next each student recieved a short converstation with the words taught last time. We used TPRStory questioning cycles on the converstaion and later students were asked to translate it. After we've done the translation, we watched a DVD named Children of Hungzhou,we discussed about it.

For 3rd period students, there were six students doing the calendar introduction; Eric, McCoy, Benthany, Luis, Austin, and Payton. After that we introduced the new words.
yá chǐ = tooth/teeth
shuā zǐ = brush (noun)
shuā = brush (verb)
yá shuā = tooth brush
shuā yá = brush teeth
zǎo shàng = in the morning
shuì jiào qián = before sleep
chī fàn hòu = after meals
qǐ chuáng = get up
We qucikly reviewed some of the words taught last time.

After the calendar and the new words, we did 'dictionary form'. After the dictionary form, we played a game that each table was assigned one word, and they were asked to use the word assigned to create a sentence in one minute. After one minute they passed their paper to the next table and create another sentence with the same word, and repeat the stp until each table received their own paper back.
