How to type in Chinese?

Some students asked me how to typ Chinese at home.
#1, you need to have Chinese in your computer.

#2, How do you know if you have Chinese in your computer?
Go to the website tw.yahoo.com and see if what you see on the page is Chinese characters or boxes. If it shows boxes then it means you don't have Chinese in your computer?

#3, How to install Chinese in your computer?
a. You will need a disc named Microsoft Windwows XP Professional Service Pack 2 or 3 to download it.
b. go to control panel -- region and language -- language -- install files for East Asian Language -- place the disc in and follow the installation procedures.

#4, After I download the East Asian Languages, can I type Chinese now?
No, not yet. You have to set up your keyboard.
a. Control Panel -- Region and Language -- Language -- Details -- Add -- choose Chinese (Taiwan) -- check the box -- OK -- properties -- Keyboard Mapping -- choose "HanYu PinYin" and then click OK -- Advance -- Make sure the box "turned off advanced text services" is unchecked -- and/or Apply.

b. Repeat the step a but this time choose Chinese (PRC).

By doing so you may type Chinese Traditional and Chinese simplied. MAKE SURE the box "turned off advanced text services" unchecked; otherwise, you won't be able to see the language bar pop-up.

#5, After you can see the language bar "EN" on the right bottom at the screen of your computer, you may click the "EN" and it will show the different languages for you - Chinese (Taiwan), Chinese (PRC), and English. By this time, you may choose the one input and start to type Chinese.
