三月五日星期二 - February 5, Thursday - A/B Day

FOR CHINESE LEVEL I ABSENT STUDENTS - Please copy down the words we learned onto your notebook and show the teacher. When you come back, show your teacher the words you've done.

FOR CHINESE LEVEL II & III ABSENT STUDENTS - Please go to Chinese-English online dictionary and look up 5 unknown words that you'd love to learn in class and write them down in Chinese characters, pinyin, and their English meaning on your notebook. When you come back, show your teacher the words you've done.

Today we have a special day with A and B schedule; each period lasts from 45-55 minutes.
For all the Chinese Level I students we learned  -
走失了zǒu shī le  = get lost/is lost
尋找xún zhǎo = look for
尋找 啟示xún zhǎo qǐ shì = Missing Poster

We first quickly used PQA questioning to ask the following questions

誰有狗?sheí yǒu gǒu? = Who has a dog?
誰有貓?sheí yǒu māo? = who has a cat?
誰有兔子?sheí yǒu tù zǐ? = who has a rabbit?
你的狗有沒有走失了?nǐ de gǒu yǒu méi yǒu zǒu shī le? = Has your dog been lost?
你的貓有沒有走失了?nǐ de māo yǒu méi yǒu zǒu shī le? = Has your cat been lost?
你的兔子有沒有走失了?nǐ de tù zǐ yǒu méi yǒu zǒu shī le? = Has your rabbit been lost?

After the questions we worked on the Missing Poster, we used several fluffy animals to practice the content about a Missing Poster.

We practiced this 尋找啟示xún zhǎo qǐ shì for 3 times and then students were asked to create their own 尋找啟示xún zhǎo qǐ shì 

For Chinese Level II and III, we did the thing that Level I students did yesterday.
1. please distribute each student a piece of lined paper (it's on the top of the steel cabinet). Please group students into groups of 2 or 3, and assign each group one of the following topics - food, sports, subjects, leisure activities, countries, clothing, transportation, season and weather, American history. If there are more groups than the topics, it's okay to assign them repeated topics.

2. Please tell the students to brainstorm what vocabulary they would like to know about the topic they are assigned and list them in English first. 10 minutes. (If students asked how many - as many as they can think of that they love to learn, at least 10 words each group - in case some students are lazy).
3. Ask the students as groups to find a dictionary or a dictionary with pictures where are on the bookshelf around the classroom and ask them to do the following task
 - a. translate the English words they would love to learn into Chinese. They need to write the Chinese characters and pinyin to the English words.
- b. be prepared to teach the class 3 words from their list to their class.
- c. get 3 small whiteboards, write a word on each whiteboard with Chinese character, pinyin and English meaing.
- d. introduce the word to class.
- e. others who are not introducing the words yet  need to write down the word the students introduced to them on their lined paper.
4. Students MAY use their cell phone to look up the words ONLY if they want. if students ask for using laptops in the classroom, tell them NO.
5. Have each group come up to the classroom and introduce their words.
