Today for Chinese Level I students we learned the following words -
賓館bīn guǎn = hotel
帶dài = to bring/to take
地方dì fāng = place
房子fáng zǐ = house
進去jìn qù = enter/go inside
and we reviewed some words
問wèn = ask
說shuō = say, speak
上面shàng miàn = on/on the top/ above
裡面lǐ miàn = inside
We had a student named from Univeristy of Utah come and observe our classes for these two weeks. Students asked Kevin questions. 1st period students such as Nicolette asked him questions in Chinese and did a great job but 2nd period students, instead, asked in English though. After Kevin's introduction, we used ASL (TPR) to help students to connect these words to their memory. After introducing the words, we used small whiteboard activity to practice the pinyin, the characters, and their meanings. Next we acted out a story and used the TPRStorytelling circling questions asked students the questions about the story for comprehension and listening/speaking skill practicesyǒu yī gè nán hái
有一個男孩 = there is a boy
tā de míng zì jiào
他的名字叫 Brent = his name is Brent
shí èr suì
Brent十二歲 = Brent is 12 years old
tā qī nián jí
他七年級 = he is in 7th grade
yī tiān yào qù mài dāng láo
一天 Brent 要去麥當勞 = One day, Brent wants to go to McDonald's.
tā kàn dào yī tóu nǎi niú
他看到一頭奶牛 = He sees a cow.
nǎi niú wèn
奶牛問Brent = The cow asks Brent,
nǐ yào qù nǎ lǐ
你要去哪裡? = Where are you going?
shuō ;wǒ yào qù mài dāng láo
Brent說;我要去麥當勞 = Brent says, I'm going to McDonald's.
nǎi niú wèn
奶牛問Brent = The cow asks Brent,
nǐ dài wǒ qù hǎo bù hǎo 你帶我去好不好? Would you please take me there?
shuō hǎo
Brent說好 = Brent says, okay.
tā dài nǎi niú qù mài dāng láo 他帶奶牛去麥當勞 = Brent takes the cow to McDonald's.
nǎi niú kàn dào mài dāng láo mài hàn bǎo bāo 奶牛看到麥當勞賣漢堡包 = The cow sees McDonald's sell hamburgers.
nǎi niú bù jìn qù mài dāng láo
奶牛不進去麥當勞 = The cow doesn't go inside McDonald's.
Brent帶奶牛去賓館 just with reading aloud.
