Today we first did the calendar first, and then introduced the new words. Next we used PQA questioning to know who have 爬樹pá shù before and who haven't. After that we used small whiteboards to practice the words. First we practiced them with English meanings on the board; later we practiced them without. At the end of the small whiteboard activity we did a quick 5-word assessment on the board and all the students got five out five right.

胖pàng = fat
瘦shòu = skinny
生病shēng bìng = (get) sick

After the small whiteboard activity we did the story. We first had volunteer students translated the story sentence by sentence. Next we used TPRS circling questions to practice listening, speaking, and comprehension skills. After that, we used TPRS opening questions such as...

At the end, students copied down the story and did the timed- reading up to 2 minutes, 1 minutes 30 seconds, 1 minute, and 30 seconds. Our goal is every student is able to read the story in 30 seconds.
