For Chinese Level I, First we introduced three words - 書, 畫, 圖. We compared the smiliarity and differences between 書 and 畫 and the words among 馬, 媽, and 嗎. Next we read the story and use circling questions. Students were asked to translate the story to English and then answer the questions 1-30. We discussed the answers together. Next we played flashcards.
For Chinese Level II and III, first we switched the seats and have students made name tags in their Chinese names and look up the dictionaries to know what their Chinese names mean.
Next, we worked on the package of the story which there are 4 pages; 1st page with full pinyin, 2nd page with 80% pinyin, 3rd page with 60% pinyin, and 4th page without pinyin. For Level III students their goal is to read the article without pinyin while Level II students to read the article with 80% pinyin. We translated the article into English and make sure students understand its meanings. After that we practice reading; page by page. Liam S. challenged to read the article without pinyin and he did a great job.
