HOMEWORK FOR SEPTEMBER 09-13 DUE ON SEPTEMBER 16/17

1. Please read the article and write the 3-5 paragraphs about the facts that you learned from this article and.
2. express what interests you and what doesn't.
3.PLUS, please compare Chinese characters and English words.
4. Share a couple of ways how you think that may help yourself learn Chinese.


 

九月九日星期一 Setpember 9, Monday - B Day

For Chinese Level I students, we first read aloud the article package and worked on the 50 facts about China (as the followings) and then we reviewed the words and practiced PQA such as 男孩, 女孩, etc. 。
1.     Group the students into 4 each group. Please click the word "the article package" to access the article.
2.     Pass the article package about China to students. Due to the fewer copies, each group only receive 2 packages. ALSO, please make sure students turn the packages in before they leave to recycle use them next period.
3.     Ask each member of the groups takes turn to read aloud paragraph by paragraph, and have them discuss the key facts in the paragraph and write them down.
4.     50 facts are required for their coming test as references.
5.     Remind students, the more details, the better scores.

For 6th period (CL 2 & 3), we did the followings first and then we read aloud as a whole class and the teacher read the sentence by sentence and students volunteered to translate it into English. Next, we did the time-read. Students read to themselves aloud up to 3 minutes and then read aloud to their partners as pairs up to 2 minutes.

2.     Pair the students.
3.     Have them read aloud the story paper and translate into English on their lined paper.
4.     Do not give them more than 35 minutes to translate the story.
5.     Once they’re done translating, please collect their translation and the story paper.

九月六日星期五 September 6, Friday - A Day

Today I had an AAPPL training which stands for ACTFL'S ASSESSMENT OF PERFORMANCE TOWARDS PROFICIENCY LANGAUGES at UU, so I had Mrs. LeVar as the sub. Below is the sub plan.

1.     Homework – ask the students to turn in to the homework box by the teacher’s table. If there’s any question about homework, ask them to go home and check on Mrs. Duke’s website and/or blog.

For 1st period (FL) and 4th period (CL1), please do the followings,

3.     Have them read aloud the story paper and translate into English on their lined paper.

4.     Do not give them more than 35 minutes to translate the story.

5.     Once they’re done translating, please collect their translation and the story paper.

6.     And then please pass them the blank story form after all the papers are collected.

7.     Have them to rewrite the story and draw pictures.

CHINA (Article about China)

Please click the link to access the article package about China (for Chinese Level I and Foreign Language Survey Student)
 
Students are working as groups of 4 on an article package named "China".
Each member of the group takes turn to read aloud paragraph by paragraph.
They discussed in the group what are the keys facts in the paragraph that is just read.
Each member in the group write the key facts on their own lined paper and 50 key facts are required in total.
The facts they wrote will work as students references at their test on knowledge about China.

For Chinese Level 2 & 3 students, we first introduced the words via the powerpoint as the followings.
Next, students were given 17 minutes to design the clothes they like. Later, students' work were displayed under the document camera and they introduced/presented their piece of work
by using the patterns

For Chinese Level I student, we first reviewed the old words and the greetings and then we introduced the new words. Next, instead of using small whiteboards, we used a sheet of paper and folded it into 8 boxes. On each box student were asked to write the "pinyin", English, and to draw a picture to what they heard.  After we finished the 12 boxes with 11 words/phrases/sentences, we played the "calling out" game that in a group of six, each student was assigned a word and each group has the same 6 words.  When the teacher called out a word such as "走 zǒu" and then the student who was assigned "走 zǒu" had to stand up and yelled aloud its English "walk".
