We used PQA and TPRS circling questions to read this very short story and then we practiced speed reading and recognizing Chinese characters; Level II students read the story with pinyin while Level III read the story without pinyin for 1 minute and then vice versa. We repeated this procedure for 3-4 times. After that, some Level III students were challenged to read this story without pinyin. Those are Level III students - Samatha, Corbin, Liam, Elias, Luke, Maddie, Nathalie, Jefferson, Brandon; and Level II students - Luis and Rich.
For Chinese Level I students we still worked on the calendar. First we worked on the following new words -
打dǎ 算suàn = (to) plan to
怎zěn 麼me = how?
慶qìng 生shēng = celebrate birhtday
生shēng 日rì = birthday
開kāi 派pài 對duì = hold a party
看kàn 電diàn 影yǐng = watch a movie
We used PQA and small whiteboards to practice these words; we used the sentence structure: ________的生日在_____月______日and for 1st period students, we went through everyone's birthday; each student had to tell their birthday in Chinese and a chosen student had to translate the birth date to English. For 2nd period students we didn't go through everyone's birthday but we played "wuziqi" game with the above-mentioned sentence structure. For example, Student A said: Kali 的生日在九月九日 and Student B said: Kali 的生日在九月八日, etc.
