September 12 DLI Chinese 3H 1st & 4th periods
Today we first talked about homework/assignment policy changes -- from now
on students are expected to write their homework/assignment in a NOTEBOOK. Mark
the date on the top of each paper. PARENTS: please sign on the page that your
student write their assignment/homework to prove that your child have read to
you. I will grade the students either at the very beginning of the class or at
the very end so the grade can be updated as soon as possible.
Another thing for Chinese 3Honor DLI students, it takes about an hour just to explain the new vocab in class and unfortuantely we still have about 1/4 - 1/5 of students couldn't get their English meanings. It is ineffective to me. Therefore, a new vocabulary package with English meanings will be heading out before the lessons start, so as the quizlet game. Students will have to study and be familiar with the English meanings of the words before they come.
Here is the dictionary form. A dictionary form will be given in advance for students to understand the English meaning so we won't spend too much time on introducing the vocab.

we used PQA with these new words and then students worked in groups of 3 to figure out the story in pinyin and their English meanings.
We read the story without pinyin first. Students learned to recognize the Chinese characters. They may look up the pinyin on the back when none of the group members knew it.

1) Restate the homework policy and expectations.
2) review all the old words.

8/30 - 你的、我的、名字、叫、什么
9/1 - 说、问、站起来、坐下
9/6 - 是、不是、你呢?再见、住在

September 6 for DLI Chinese 3 Honor 1st period
Today we talked about the homework assignments. Students are expected to turn in their homework every time they come in; 1) a sheet of lined paper that they copy new words in Chinese characters 5 times; 2) A note from their parents for reading 5 minutes to them. 3) play quizlet. I will see the student's progress on quizlet so students do not need any 'evidence'.
After we made the homework was clear we introduced the new words. In class we didn't use English but to avoid the confusion I will start to put English meanings on the dictionary form.
