三月七日星期四 - March 7, Thursday - B Day

FOR CHINESE LEVE I ABSENT STUDENTS - Please copy down the words onto your notes and show your teacher your notes when you come back.

Since our unit is about Misssing Poster 尋人啟示, we are learning the terms on the Missing Poster 尋人啟示.
The wors we learned are the folloings
性別xìng bié = gender
身高shēn gāo = height
體重tǐ zhòng = weight
年齡 nián líng = age
姓名xìng míng = name

Extension words we learned are --
多重 duō zhòng = how heavy?
多高duō gāo = how tall?
幾歲 jǐ suì = how old?
多大duō dà = how old?
磅 páng = pounds



We first reviewed the words 走失了 尋找 尋找啟示 
and then we used PQA and TPRS circling questions to guess and see how much weight students A is and/or how tall student B is. After that, students worked as a group to ask one another 你多高? 你多重? We also used small whiteboards to practice these words. Later we used small whiteboard activity to work on these words. Last we played standing-up game with assigned word.

Since our unit is about Misssing Poster 尋人啟示, we are learning the terms on the Missing Poster 尋人啟示.
The wors we learned are the folloings
性別xìng bié = gender
身高shēn gāo = height
體重tǐ zhòng = weight
年齡 nián líng = age
姓名xìng míng = name

We played some guessing games and see how much weight students A is and/or how tall student B is. After that, students worked as a group to ask one another 你多高? 你多重? We also used small whiteboards to practice these words.

For 1st period we also read a very short story --

tā de péng yǒu míng jiào
他的朋友名叫.........

For Chinese Level II and III students, first they were given 15 minutes to prepare to teach their 5 words that they did yesterday. Every student is given 7 minutes to teach the 5 words to the class.
Students teach students and it seems they have fun and they would like to come up to do their presentation.

三月五日星期二 - February 5, Thursday - A/B Day

FOR CHINESE LEVEL I ABSENT STUDENTS - Please copy down the words we learned onto your notebook and show the teacher. When you come back, show your teacher the words you've done.

FOR CHINESE LEVEL II & III ABSENT STUDENTS - Please go to Chinese-English online dictionary and look up 5 unknown words that you'd love to learn in class and write them down in Chinese characters, pinyin, and their English meaning on your notebook. When you come back, show your teacher the words you've done.

Today we have a special day with A and B schedule; each period lasts from 45-55 minutes.
For all the Chinese Level I students we learned  -
走失了zǒu shī le  = get lost/is lost
尋找xún zhǎo = look for
尋找 啟示xún zhǎo qǐ shì = Missing Poster

We first quickly used PQA questioning to ask the following questions

誰有狗?sheí yǒu gǒu? = Who has a dog?
誰有貓?sheí yǒu māo? = who has a cat?
誰有兔子?sheí yǒu tù zǐ? = who has a rabbit?
你的狗有沒有走失了?nǐ de gǒu yǒu méi yǒu zǒu shī le? = Has your dog been lost?
你的貓有沒有走失了?nǐ de māo yǒu méi yǒu zǒu shī le? = Has your cat been lost?
你的兔子有沒有走失了?nǐ de tù zǐ yǒu méi yǒu zǒu shī le? = Has your rabbit been lost?

After the questions we worked on the Missing Poster, we used several fluffy animals to practice the content about a Missing Poster.

We practiced this 尋找啟示xún zhǎo qǐ shì for 3 times and then students were asked to create their own 尋找啟示xún zhǎo qǐ shì 

For Chinese Level II and III, we did the thing that Level I students did yesterday.

3. Ask the students as groups to find a dictionary or a dictionary with pictures where are on the bookshelf around the classroom and ask them to do the following task
 - a. translate the English words they would love to learn into Chinese. They need to write the Chinese characters and pinyin to the English words.
- b. be prepared to teach the class 3 words from their list to their class.
- c. get 3 small whiteboards, write a word on each whiteboard with Chinese character, pinyin and English meaing.
- d. introduce the word to class.
- e. others who are not introducing the words yet  need to write down the word the students introduced to them on their lined paper.
4. Students MAY use their cell phone to look up the words ONLY if they want. if students ask for using laptops in the classroom, tell them NO.
5. Have each group come up to the classroom and introduce their words.

三月四日星期一 - March 4, Monday - B Day

I have a sub today and this is the sub plan. 

For Chinese Level I,
1. please distribute each student a piece of lined paper (it's on the top of the steel cabinet). Please group students into groups of 2 or 3, and assign each group one of the following topics - food, sports, subjects, leisure activities, countries, clothing, transportation, season and weather, American history. If there are more groups than the topics, it's okay to assign them repeated topics.

FOR CHINESE LEVEL I ABSENT STUDENTS - #1, Copy down the words and the story onto your notebook and then show the teacher when you come back, #2, created a story with 8 sentences using the patter as the following example...

Oooops, we forgot to do the calendar today. :-( Well, it's okay. We will remember it next time. :-)
Today we first introduced these two words --

天空tiān kōng  = sky
掉下來diào xià lái /掉下去diào xià qù = fall down/fall off

And then  we viewed a powerpoint on "天空掉下來了" (please click 天空掉下來了to access the story) and also use circling questions for listening, speaking, and comprehension check. We quickly reviewed the story by filling the blank --

After that students were asked to create their own story according the pattern. Some students did a super awesome job. 

Oh, by the way, to help students remember 找 zhǎo and 找到zhǎo dào, we played a game "hide and seek" (hide a Chinese knot and have a student seek for it). It's a around-15 minute game.

二月二十七日星期三 Feb 27, Wednesday - A Day

FOR CHINESE LEVEL II & III ABSENT STUDENTS - #1, Copy down the words onto your notebook and then show the teacher when you come back.

For Chinese Level I students we first did the calendar. After the calendar, we introduced the following new words --

天空tiān kōng  = sky
掉下來diào xià lái /掉下去diào xià qù = fall down/fall off

And the students were asked to copy down the story in pinyin and then we translated the story as a whole group, using TPRS circling questions to practice listening and speaking. Next we viewed a powerpoint on "天空掉下來了" (please click 天空掉下來了to access the reading story) and also use circling questions for comprehension check. Later students were given a piece of paper with verbs in Chinese and practiced these words on their own. (Please click a piece of paper with verbs to access the worksheet. Oh, by the way, to help students remember 找 zhǎo and 找到zhǎo dào, we played a game "hide and seek" (hide a Chinese knot and have a student seek for it). It's a around-15 minute game.

For Chinese Level II & III students we worked a piece of paper with verbs; different from the Level I students, we first discussed the English meaning, and gave the students 1 minute to study the words. And then students started to write their English meaning in a time frame. The teacher time the speed how fast a student finish writing the English meanings. For example, Josh finished at 一分二十七秒 (1'27"), Brandon finished at 三分十七秒 (3'17") etc. When 5 minutes up, no matter whether all the students or not finished the English meaning. We quickly discussed the meanings and then gave students a minute to review the words. After that the teacher timed the speed how fast a student finish writing the English meaning. We repeated this step for 3 times.

Next we played "拍蒼蠅" (swap the flies). The teacher said a word and two students swapped the character that the teacher said. The faster one received a point for their team.
